Digital Penitent
The Stations of the Cross
Opening Prayer
The Digital Penitent Stations of the Cross is a contemporary Way of the Cross addressing the particular temptations of the digital age: vanity, noise, detraction, spiritual worldliness, and disordered technology use. At each station, sing the stanza, pray the Consider, offer the Prayer, and keep a brief silence.
Lord Jesus Christ, eternal Son of the Father, condemned by sinners, scourged by soldiers, burdened with the wood of the Cross, crucified in poverty, buried in silence, and risen in glory: convert me. In an age of speed, noise, vanity, outrage, and self-display, draw me into true penance. Break the hardness of my heart. Deliver me from rash judgment, detraction, calumny, contempt, sterile productivity, spiritual worldliness, false image, and the hunger to control. Teach me to love truth more than reaction, persons more than platforms, communion more than performance, silence more than noise, and obedience more than self-will. Grant that my labor may never make me forget the poor, the worker, the child, the family, the weary, or the wounded. Let me never treat a human being as a thing, nor myself as a machine, nor any tool as a master. By the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph the Worker, Saint Francis of Assisi, and all holy penitents, teach me prayer, fasting, almsgiving, recollection, justice, mercy, and joyful endurance, so that every word I speak, every image I behold, every burden I carry, and every instrument I use may serve truth and charity. Amen.
