Stations of the Cross

A Lenten Way of the Cross for 2026, connecting Christ's Passion to the suffering of those caught in war, displacement, detention, and injustice. At each station, we hear the cry of the poor and ask: where is Christ in this moment?

Lord Jesus Christ, You were arrested without cause, condemned by an occupying power, tortured by soldiers, and executed outside the city walls among criminals. In this Lent, Your Passion is not history alone. It unfolds again in the bodies of the bombed and the displaced, in detention cells and razed neighborhoods, in the cries of children buried under rubble and mothers who cannot find their sons. The Church teaches that every human person bears Your image and that this dignity can never be taken away: not by war, not by law, not by the indifference of the comfortable. Yet we live in a time when civilians are killed in airstrikes and called collateral, when families are torn apart by mass arrest and called enforcement, when those who cry out for justice are beaten and called criminals, and when the ancient wound of racism still assigns worth by the color of skin. Open our eyes to see Your face in every one of them. Break our complicity with silence. Teach us lament that becomes action, and prayer that becomes solidarity. By the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of all the afflicted, and all holy witnesses to justice, grant us courage. Amen.
